Rainy Days and Mondays

Okay, so I know that today isn't a Monday but it is a special day for me. I am the Guest Designer over at Uniko studio
The challenge is to be inspired by a song or the lyrics from a song and my song is
"Rainy days and Mondays" by The Carpenters.

I suppose I'm kind of showing my age by my song choice.

Anyway here is my card

I haven't used my Texture paint for a while and it had got a bit thick hence the bald spot in the bottom left. It just fell off as I was working with it. But I decided that it added to the rough texture so I used the panel after all.

So pop on over and see what the rest of the design team have to inspire you.

I will also be entering this over at CASology were the cue is

I'm dreaming of a rainy day, or a couple of them rather, to break our drought!

and at  Curtain call challenge were I concentrated on the colours in this photo

Thread: Cerise: DMC S601
              Grey: DMC 310

I wanted to give this pattern a second go as I wanted to improve on some things and realized that it would fit perfectly with the diagonal row of Umbrella, clean and simple and all I had to do was add the patterned paper. So here is my card.

Rainy days and Umbrellas

That is the challenge at Split Coast Stampers Free 4 All, it's rainy days and umbrellas.

I wish we were having that problem here but driving home today the newspaper headlines were all about the possibility of my province experiencing a drought and the possible water restrictions.
Although we are in a summer rainfall area and so we can't expect rain at the moment, it is still extremely dry so I wouldn't be surprised if we do get some kind of restriction soon.

Oh well, on to my card.

I stitched the umbrellas and then fussy cut them. I also made the little flowers in the top corner.

You can see some cards made with the same pattern here and here.

I will also be entering this in Addicted to CAS challenge

Raindrops keep falling on my head...

…well not literally but I can always hope!

It’s winter here in the Southern Hemisphere and in Durban, the city where I live, it does not rain in winter so I suppose you could call this wishful thinking.

But I do so love the rain. I love the smell of it, the sound of it and how lovely and clean everything looks after a shower. For me there is nothing better than lying in bed and listening to the rain falling outside.

Oh well, these umbrellas will have to do in the mean time.

I found a lovely stamped card on  Splitcoast Stampers  that was my inspiration for this card. I knew that with a little tweeking to one of my all time favourite prick and stitch patterns from Stitching Cards the umbrella would be perfect. So I added a curved end to the handle,  left the lady off of course, and I was ready to go.
Once the stitching was done I punched an oval hole on either side, threaded some baker’s twine through that, added 3 flat backed gems and 'voila' a card.
The baker’s twine proved a little thick and the topper would not lie flat so I adhered the top panel to the rest of the cardstock using double sided foam dots. Besides solving the problem nicely it also added some good dimension.

Supplies
Pattern: Stitching Cards Bookmark Lady with an umbrella
Oval punch and craft hammar
Baker's twine in pink and green
flat backed gems
