Midsummer Blues

Simon says stamp blog Wednesday challenge is

'Midsummer blues'

This is the card I made to say Thank you to the parents of the boys in my class. During our Covid Lockdown my school did online teaching but as my students are still little, only 9 years of age, I was very aware that parents where helping out a lot with the work too. Now that my class is back (all be it only half at a time) I wnted to acknowledge the effort made by parents and so sent each one a little note.

I am learning to Draw with my Silhouette Machine and this was made with that.

I made the envelope using pages from an old atlas.

Supplies:

Card stock: 160gsm in white

Gel pen in blue

Cameo Silhouette machine

Saying Thank You

This time of the year for me involves a lot of thank yous. So today I am going to share some of the cards I will be using this year.

As you know it was my birthday recently so I'll start with the thank yous for that.

I decided to go with a notelet this time instead of a card and as you can see I stuck to the same colour palette and repeated the butterfly theme. I used my Cuttlebug to emboss a border down the side of the card stock. Quick but pretty I think.

This next card is for my colleagues. It's to say thanks for a great year and wish them all the best for the holidays. (the continued butterfly theme is totally unintentional this time!)

I tried to print the sentiment straight onto the card stock but my printer kept on making it crooked so I cut out the 'mistakes' and stitched them on with my sewing machine.

I was inspired by this lovely card

Edited 23/2/2015: I have entered this card in the butterflies and ribbons challenge over at Butterfly Challenge

Supplies:
Embossing folders: Top card Spellbinders Pebbles and bottom Cuttlebug Swirls
Cuttlebug machine
Sizzix 8 circle die
Martha Steward butterfly punch
small flat backed pearls
Pale green thin satin ribbon
Card stock 160gsm
Envelopes: Activity park

A versitile frame

Every so often I come across a stitched frame that works really well with all manner of sentiments.
Today's pattern is one such frame.
A friend drew my attention to this pattern by Stitching Cards and I have made plenty of use of it over the years.

Here are my latest two versions

This one was a commissioned card for my Aunt's sister

and finally, this is how the original pattern was intended to look

Supplies:
Sentiments:Happy BirthdayThank you and the digits were home made.
Rolfes Metallic marker in gold
Threads: Green light and dark, purple, coral and pink. All makes and numbers unknown.
All embossed paper shop bought.
Card Stock 200gsm in white

Thank you

This weekend was my turn to have a break from early morning school sport and what a lucky break I caught because it rained! Not hard enough to cancel the game but just enough to ruin the hair and make it miserable out there. I did spare a thought for my colleagues while I drank a cup of coffee in my warm, dry bed.

Today I am sharing a pattern with you which is very versatile.
It's a lovely frame and the large space inside makes adding a stitched sentiment very simple. I have used this pattern over and over.

I gave all cards a border using a felt tipped pen.

Supplies:
Patterns: Stitching Cards Sentiment
Frame: Basics of Embroidery on Paper by Erica Fortgens
Papers: Scraps from my stash, sorry no brand names
Threads: Frame DMC metallic antique copper. Others: no info available
Felt tipped pens: Rolfes Metallic Marker in green and pink

Lapwings and Buffalo

A couple of weeks ago we spent 3 days as invited guests at a Game Park. What a privilege. We were so spoilt and saw some amazing animals and birds.

One evening just as the sun was setting we watched as a pair of Blacksmith Lapwings saw off a herd of buffalo who wandered too close to their nest. It's amazing that they lay their eggs slap bang in the middle of an open piece of land with nothing to protect them at all. We really thought that the eggs wouldn't survive as one of the buffalo actually lay down right where the nest appeared to be. After about 10 minutes of squawking, a few pecks on the nose and lots of wing flapping the animals moved off and all three eggs where perfect, thank goodness.
Nature never fails to amaze me.

I made this card to send as a thank you for the fantastic weekend.

The envelope was made using the Complete Crafter's Companion.

A different colour combination.

I personalized this bought envelope by securing some striped paper to the flap.
