Elephant

Lisa Somerville is this weeks Split coast stampers Featured Stamper 489
While looking at her gallery I noticed that she had a couple of cards with elephants on them so I decided to use that as my inspiration.
A couple of years ago I made this card for my husband's birthday

His company sponsored a helicopter which was to be used as part of a darting and tagging conservation exercise with some elephants. He got to watch the entire thing and even touch this beautiful mammoth while she was unconscious. All of this happened on his birthday, hence the subject matter for the card. What an experience! Needless to say the gift that I gave him that year sort of paled in comparison!

Leopard

I'm taking part in Split Coast Stampers Queen for the Day challenge again this week. Our new queen is Lois. She has been creating cards for many years now and I have often been inspired by her work.
Here is my card to honour her

Leopards are by far my favourite big cat although I have yet to see one in the wild. The only one of the big Five that I haven't seen.
The card I was inspired by was this one.
Below is a card I made a while ago now using the same pattern. I don't think I'll ever do the yellow card stock again! It's combined with a blue not purple.

Supplies:
Pattern: Prick 'n Stitch Big Five
Thread: White or metallic copper
String
Paper: silver and blue
Card stock 180gsm in yellow and green
copper brads

Lapwings and Buffalo

A couple of weeks ago we spent 3 days as invited guests at a Game Park. What a privilege. We were so spoilt and saw some amazing animals and birds.

One evening just as the sun was setting we watched as a pair of Blacksmith Lapwings saw off a herd of buffalo who wandered too close to their nest. It's amazing that they lay their eggs slap bang in the middle of an open piece of land with nothing to protect them at all. We really thought that the eggs wouldn't survive as one of the buffalo actually lay down right where the nest appeared to be. After about 10 minutes of squawking, a few pecks on the nose and lots of wing flapping the animals moved off and all three eggs where perfect, thank goodness.
Nature never fails to amaze me.

I made this card to send as a thank you for the fantastic weekend.

The envelope was made using the Complete Crafter's Companion.

A different colour combination.

I personalized this bought envelope by securing some striped paper to the flap.
